Book 13 in the USA Today Bestselling Impossible Series—Can be read as a standalone.

A man with a broken heart…

The agony of losing the woman I love to another Dominant has left me dead inside. Over the last two years, sex has become my drug of choice to cope with the loss. I know I’m too broken to ever love again, but that won’t stop me from trying to fuck my pain away.

A woman with a painful past…

I’m not interested in intimacy, but I am interested in sex. As a BDSM romance novelist, I need to explore the world of kink for my books. The power exchange is meaningless; nothing more than research. Until I meet him. The powerful Dom won’t relent until he breaks down all my walls, including the ones that protect my ravaged heart.

Bound together by lust and danger…

Chloe Martin is a BDSM romance author by night and an investigative journalist by day. When the latter brings her to the New York unit of the FBI to research the Latin Kings, she never expects her two careers to collide. The agent she’s shadowing—Dexter Scott—is also a Dominant, and he’s interested in helping with her research in the field and in the bedroom.

But Chloe’s story on the Latin Kings puts her in the line of fire, and Dex’s protective—and possessive—instincts kick in. Can he let go of his pain and find his happily ever after? Or will the danger that surrounds them steal his second chance at love?

KISS ME THAT WAY
Cottonbloom #1
Laura Trentham
Releasing May 31st, 2016
St. Martin’s Paperbacks

A river divides Cottonbloom in two: the upscale enclave on the Mississippi side and the rundown, rough and tumble side in Louisiana. They’re worlds apart—but nothing can build a bridge like love…Cade Fournette never had it easy Cottonbloom. He stuck around long enough to
raise his orphaned siblings and then hightailed it out West—and never looked
back. Even though he’s made a success of himself in Seattle, Cade never lost
the toughness and the angry edge that helped him survive down South. His only
weak spot: the girl he left behind…

Monroe Kirby came from the wealthy side of town, but that didn’t protect her
from her mother’s drinking—or her mother’s boyfriend. It was Cade who did that,
on a long-ago hot September night, before he disappeared…along with a piece of
her heart. Now Monroe is a physical therapist who can fight for herself, and
it’s Cade who could use some conditioning when he makes an unexpected return
back home. Will he and Monroe pick up where they left off and finally explore
their mutual passion—or will the scars and secrets of the past divide them once
more?

An award-winning author, Laura Trentham was born and raised in a small town in Tennessee. Although, she loved English and reading in high school, she was convinced an English degree equated to starvation. She chose the next most logical major—Chemical Engineering—and worked in a hard hat and steel toed boots for several years.

She writes sexy, small town contemporaries and smoking hot Regency historicals. The first two books of her Falcon Football series were named Top Picks by RT Book Reviews magazine. When not lost in a cozy Southern town or Regency England, she’s shuttling kids to soccer, helping with homework, and avoiding the Mt. Everest-sized pile of laundry that is almost as large as the to-be-read pile of books on her nightstand.

4 stars!
Small town Louisiana and Mississippi come to life in here; the good and the bad.

When we first meet them Cade is from the wrong side of Cottonbloom and is struggling to keep his brother and sister fed and together after their parents death. Monroe is from the upscale side, but she’s suffering in her own way. They form a friendship that shouldn’t have been there, but fate pushed them together that night and they continue to trust in each other until Monroe finishes high school and Cade is forced out of town. Flash forward a decade later and Cade has come back to Cottonbloom where he runs into Monroe. Their bond hasn’t died in all those years, but now they’re adults and there is more to it than just friendship. Will they accept what is going on between them or will they let it go? You need to read the book and find out ;0)

I really liked all the characters in here. Regan and Sawyer have such a rich history and I want to know their story soooo bad! Tally is a bit of a mystery, but I’m wondering about her and Nash, especially since he’s back and he asked about her. And as for Cade and Monroe. I loved them.

Happy Reading! ~Susan

BOOK 1: THE HANDMAID

UC1 cover

SYNOPSIS
In a bold political move, Sir Branford claims a handmaid as his bride instead of the expected princess in an attempt to spark a war. Poor Alexandra knows little of how to behave as the wife of a future king and knows nothing of the man who is suddenly her husband.
Alexandra knows she is being used as a pawn and must do her best to avoid scheming noblewomen and the scorned princess, accept her position as her husband ascends to the throne, and overcome her fears of the man with whom she now shares a bed.
Sir Branford is determined to have it all – the kingdom, a wife of his choosing, and the revenge he seeks for the death of his father. He doesn’t expect the naïve handmaid to become more important than he ever could have foreseen.

Excerpt:

“Parnell, I’m only going to say this to you once.” Branford’s voice turned cold. “Regardless of your feelings regarding my marriage, Alexandra is my wife now, and you’ll not speak of her with any disrespect. I will not have you refer to my marriage as ridiculous. Am I clear?”
“Yes, sire,” Sir Parnell responded, the tone in his voice switching quickly from jovial friend and cousin to properly chastised servant. “Forgive me.”
I felt Branford’s hand through my hair again, nearly lulling me into true unconsciousness. The carriage bounced through a rough section of the road, then continued on as the driver called out to the horses. The rain lessened, and the pattering sound on top of the carriage became softer.
“Something has changed, has it not?” Parnell said quietly.
“Perhaps.”
“What is it, Branford?”
There was a significant pause before Branford responded.
“Parnell,” he said, “when I came up with this plan, I thought I was considering everything. Edgar would be angered but impotent to react since he brought it on himself. Whitney would be insulted, and between both those reactions, one of the next blows would lead to war. At the same time, it gets Camden off my back about finding a wife. Sunniva holds her tongue about wanting grandchildren, and I get it all—the kingdom expanded when we invade, the crown, an heir, and nothing else changes. At home, I have someone who can take care of me and my needs. I didn’t have any intention of being faithful, so it’s not as if my life away from home would change with the introduction of a wife.”
“I thought I had gone through all possibilities,” Branford said, continuing. “The woman who would be the catalyst was always nameless and faceless. It didn’t matter who she was as long as she wasn’t Whitney. I decided on one of her handmaids while I was out on the field because they sat close to Whitney, and it would be more…visually dramatic. I could walk up right in front of her and turn away at the last second. It would also anger her intensely, which is exactly what I wanted. There must have been a half dozen of them, and I didn’t care which. They would all be skilled in matters of the home, which keeps me from having to employ any servants whose loyalties are questionable. I only picked Alexandra because she looked at me early on, when I was first declared victorious, and she blushed when her eyes met mine. The color on her cheeks was simply lovely, and she has beautiful eyes.”
“Now your bride is no longer nameless and faceless,” Parnell said.
“No, she is not,” Branford replied. “When I took her up to my room, I had every intention of bedding her. I had been staring at her in that dress all evening, and I was ready to see what was underneath it.”
“And was she lacking?” Parnell asked. “You can still annul since you haven’t consummated the union.”
“She’s a commoner, Parnell.” His voice turned hard and callous. “I could open the doors of this carriage in the middle of a busy marketplace, take her in front of a dozen witnesses, declare her a lousy fuck, and still have the marriage annulled.

EXCERPT – No Place to Hide (Ultimate Vengeance)

No. She couldn’t get Alekzander into trouble with the law simply because he’d stopped loving her and had chosen to move on without telling her first. She should. She should spill every little secret she had, not that there were many. But she never would. Despite everything, he was her daughter’s father.

Then again, she thought, feeling ill, if it came down to it and she had to choose between keeping Lekzi in her life and Alekzander’s freedom, well, there was no choice. But until then…

“That would not work because I was never personally aware of anything he or his family did that might have been illegal. For all I know, their intimidating reputation could have been created simply to make themselves feel special.”

She saw Justin’s head turn her way but didn’t meet the look because then he’d see she was lying through her teeth. He tapped his thumbs on the steering wheel.

“This may sound insensitive, but why didn’t you go back home to your family when things fell apart here?”

Wishing he could drive faster, she answered honestly. “I am an only child, and, as you know, my parents are gone. But even if I had someone there, at that time, I could not afford to go home.” He frowned in confusion, so she went on, her cheeks heating. “While I was with Alekzander, I did not work, or go back to school as I had planned. When I left Russia, I dropped out of my fourth year of university,” she explained. “But I had every intention of applying to colleges here so I could finish my liberal arts degree. I had planned to go into the field of Human Resources, but, as I said, I did not.” She moved on because she could hear how defensive she was beginning to sound. “Alekzander enjoyed having me at home, and I enjoyed being there for him.”

Shame coated that last bit, revealing how little she thought of the decision she’d made back then. She should never have given up her independence. She suspected that had much to do with what had happened.

“So he kept you broke and dependent on him?” Justin questioned as they came out of the tunnel and traveled the relatively empty streets of Queens heading for Sunnyside.

“No, of course not. He was very generous. I had credit cards and a bank account that I could use freely.”

Feeling small, she wanted to add that she wasn’t a parasite, but hearing herself, she found she couldn’t. Her and Alekzander’s first real fight had been about her working to save the money she would need to return to school. He’d convinced her it wasn’t something that had to be decided right then and had quieted her protests by saying they’d discuss her education later. It had always been later. And she’d let him get away with discounting her future. Had she not been such a pushover, so eager to please him, would things have been different?

“I did not use his money after things ended,” she murmured.

“Why? Any other woman, especially a pregnant one, would have withdrawn a large chunk of cash—especially because as a Tarasov he could certainly afford it—and lived off it until she was back on her feet. Why didn’t you?”

“Because I did not want his money. I did not want anything from him.” She shifted, grinding her teeth at the warble in her voice. It signified weakness, and that embarrassed her. “Anyway,” she said, sneaking in another common word Americans used regularly. “How could I go home when I did not have enough money to buy an airline ticket, to rent an apartment once I got there, and to live until I found a job? I could not. So I stayed here where it had already become familiar. And Lekzi and I have done fine without him. Our life is simple, but that is all we need.” She might not have two homes and a private jet, but despite having to save most of her earnings, she was providing for her daughter, and she was proud of that.

When they eventually turned onto her street, she tried not to think about what it would cost her, financially and emotionally, to start over again. Another new city, no friends, no job, no place to live. And it would be so much worse this time because she was dragging her innocent daughter along, making her baby suffer for the sins of her parents…

The world stilled for a split second before Sacha felt the impact of her reality hit with the force of a punch.

A group of well-dressed men milled about in front of her apartment building. Two were on the sidewalk speaking with a uniformed NYPD officer while another two stood in front of the main entrance of the three-story walk-up.

Oh, God. “I told you.” Her whisper was eerily accepting. “He has come for me.”

4 stars!

I love dragon shifter books! And how cool is it that there is a series out about FEMALE dragon shifters just learning to shift after being under a curse and not being able to?

This is the third book in the series (how did I not know about this before), but can be read with no problem in understanding what is going on in this world. In here we have Margery, a newly shifted dragon queen, waking up during a rescue after having been kidnapped. She’s weak and needs to heal to be able to shift again. In steps dragon Remy, also known as Champ. He’s a sea dragon and he offers his home area around Lake Champlain for her. As a human Margery was an investigative reporter and her last article is what led to her kidnapping. It’s on a drug that is being produced to make human women have dragon babies. I won’t tell you what happens, just know I couldn’t put this down and read it in one day 🙂 It’s full of action and intrigue because you don’t know who’s a good guy and who’s not.

5 stars!
OH MY! The second installment of Nic and Anna’s story was action-filled and kept me on the edge of my seat. I am dying for the next part to see what happens!

Happy Reading! ~Susan

EXCERPT
Damn, the girl was fast. But Nic was just as quick, because I found myself lifted off
my feet, carried into the house, and placed onto the couch in the living room,
in what felt like the blink of an eye.
He sat down next to me, leaning over, his face close to mine. “We need to
talk.” I pushed against his chest, trying to get out from under him, my
mind a jumbled mess after everything I’d just heard. What I’d just learned
about him. My Nic was a mobster. It was almost impossible to believe. He was
into bad stuff, illegal stuff. Things about which I had zero clue because he’d
kept me in the dark.
“We’ll talk,” he promised, his hand sliding under my robe and up my inner thigh.
“After.”
“After?” I stuttered, my breath hitching when he sank two fingers inside me.
“After you come on my hand, in my mouth, and on my cock.”
I pushed against his chest again, even as my legs widened slightly, giving him
better access to my body. “I’m angry with you, Nic. And hurt. And a little
scared.”
He stilled over me, staring down at me with pain filled eyes. “I will never
hurt you, mia dolce. Never.”
I was a heartfelt vow, and I believed him. It might make me the most naïve person
on the planet, but I knew deep in my bones that Nic didn’t mean me any harm.
“I know,” I whispered softly, one hand sliding up his chest to cup his cheek.
“But I’m still unbelievably angry with you.”
“Then take your anger out on my body, Gianna, and let me show you exactly how sorry I
am.”
“But-” I tried to protest. Despite everything, my body responded to his dark tone. A
quick twist of his wrist had his fingers rubbing against my G-spot and any
coherent thought fled my brain.
With expert strokes, he drove me higher and higher until I was fulfilling the first
part of his promise, coming on his hand. Then he dropped to his knees, lifting
my legs over his shoulders, and his mouth latched on to me. He ate at me like
he was starving—licking and sucking while he held my hips down so I couldn’t
move. It wasn’t until I’d come twice more that he lifted his head. I saw my
wetness glistening on his beard before he wiped it against my belly, bared as
the robe had parted wide down the middle. Then he unbuckled his belt, unzipped
his pants, and pulled his cock out. It was hard and bobbed thickly against his
stomach.
Without any preamble, he lifted my hips into the air, lining us up and driving inside
of me. Sensitive from my orgasms, I felt every inch of him as he slid against
my drenched heat. He was so big, my body had to stretch to take him all.
Somehow, I was both uncomfortable and excited at the same time. Then he pulled
out, only to thrust back in and my mind blanked as he pounded into me. Deep and
hard. I’d thought he’d been rough with me the night before, but it was nothing
compared to the way he was taking me now. Like he owned me, and my body loved
it. I was caged between his muscular body and the couch, writhing in ecstasy,
and even with what I knew about him, it felt like exactly where I belonged.
When his mouth dropped down to mine, claiming it in a searing kiss, I was
thrown over the edge once again, taking him with me.
Chest heaving, on a panting breath, Nic growled, “Now we can talk. And you’ll
listen to me, with my come filling your pussy.”

Angry over the past, she does everything within her power to ignore the pull she feels whenever he is near. But how can she ignore the pain she sees every time their eyes meet? How can she fight the need to soothe him even if she knows she’s liable to get hurt once again?

Is it possible for June and Evan to find their way back to each other again? Or will they be stopped by an outside force before they ever have a shot?

Until June teaser 2

Excerpt:

Seeing Evan again is taking a toll on me, I can’t sleep and my mind is in a constant state of turmoil. I wake up in the middle of the night from dreams of us. The memories of him, of us are too much. Some memories have the ability to heal. The ability to light up the dark because the beauty of the memory is so bright you’re still able to bask in it.

But the memories of us are killing me slowly. They remind me that for one moment I had everything while reminding me it’s gone. It’s the realization that we’re done that’s killing me. The realization that I can see him but can’t touch him that he exist but he’s not mine is agonizing.

Susan’s Review: 4 stars!

Aurora Rose Reynolds is another one of those authors who have been on my TBR list for a while. After finally reading something by her, I’m sad that I didn’t do that before now. Her writing style is easy to read and kind of reminds me of Kristen Ashley.

This was June and Evan’s story. The have a history, and not just a history, but A HISTORY. They were married while she was in college and he was leaving for the Marines. Out of the blue, Evan sends her divorce papers and June was heart broken. This was definitely a case of Evan putting everyone through misery because he thought he was doing the right thing. When they cross paths again several years later, the pull is still there and Evan realizes how wrong he was so he works to get her back.

I loved the family dynamics in here. June has some crazy family members LOL That’s what I think reminded me of KA’s writing…the way the family all comes together and has a good time even though some of them are off their rocker 🙂

Happy Reading!
