*REVIEW* Twist by Kylie Scott

twistFrom New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott comes the second sizzling stand-alone novel in the Dive Bar series!

When his younger brother loses interest in online dating, hot bearded bartender Joe Collins only intends to log into his account and shut it down. Until he reads about her.

Alex Parks is funny, fascinating, and pretty much everything he’s been looking for in a woman—except that she lives across the country. Soon they’re emailing up a storm and telling each other their deepest, darkest secrets…except the one that really matters.

When Alex pays Joe a surprise visit, however, they both discover that when it comes to love, it’s always better with a twist.

Susan’s Review: 5 stars

Thank you, Kylie Scott! Thank you for writing and being good at it! I picked this up because 1) I knew I’d love it and have been waiting to read it since meeting Joe in the first book and 2) I read a few less than stellar books recently and I was thinking I was going into a reading slump. READING SLUMP IS NO MORE!

I wouldn’t necessarily say this was angsty, but I would say it was rather emotional and kind of heavy. Alex shows up at Dive Bar to meet Eric in person after having emailed and messaged with him for the last few months. Only Eric has no clue who she is because it’s actually been his older brother Joe who’s been talking to her. Naturally, Alex is horrified and leaves in the rain to find a hotel. When she gets the flu, Joe takes care of her and they iron out the deception and start over being friends.

Both Joe and Alex have some baggage and have trouble getting out of the mold they have some how managed to get into…Joe always doing what others expect and never what he wants and Alex hiding away from the world. They agree to push each others boundaries and to see where things go. I don’t want to say too much for fear of spoiling it, but just know my heart broke near the end – for more than one reason. And when Alex left, I was hurt for everyone involved. But the ending, ahhhh it was lovely and fixed ALL the heart ache!

I’m dying to see who can tame spoiled man-child Eric. That has to be one hell of a woman!

So, this is Andie and Roman’s story.  You meet the in book 1 of this series, which I have not read.  I didn’t have any trouble following along, so don’t worry about being lost.  Andie and Roman have this love hate relationship, with benefits 😉  And the book starts off with a bang…Andie telling Roman she’s pregnant.

There were some great funny moments in here and the writing was fantastic.  I just could not stand Andie!  She was angry most of the time and would try to be nice and it was like a switch would flip and she’d go off being angry again.  I really thought Roman could do better than her and that she wasn’t worth all the work he was putting into it with her.  He was sweet and kind and deserved better.

Forbidden Kisses by Annie Rains

chemistry is more explosive than ever.
And if the Sawyers can forgive and
forget, anything is possible.
Blushing Bay #1
Annie Rains
Releasing April 11th, 2017

For years, Jack Sawyer’s family has been running their upscale seafood business like a finely tuned machine. But every machine breaks down eventually, and suddenly Jack needs a new office manager, a new kayak launch, and a new lease on life. Then Grace Donner shows up again. She’s smart, motivated, and perfect for the manager position, but if she’s anything like her mom, she can’t be trusted. And Jack has never been able to trust himself around Grace.

Grace hasn’t seen her former stepbrothers since their parents’ messy divorce, but she never forgot them—especially Jack. She misses being part of the big rambunctious Sawyer clan, and if there’s an opportunity to set things right,
she means to do it. But she can’t ignore Jack’s irresistibly kissable lips, or the searing way he looks at her when he thinks she’s not looking. Their chemistry is more explosive than ever. And if the Sawyers can forgive and forget, anything is possible.

Annie Rains is a USA Today bestselling author who writes small-town love stories set in fictional towns on the coast of North Carolina. Raised in one of America’s largest military communities, Annie often features heroes who fight for their countries, while also fighting for a place to call home and a good woman to love. When Annie isn’t writing, she’s spending time with her husband and three children, or reading a book by one of her favorite authors.

Susan’s Review: 3 stars

I don’t know if I want to classify this as enemies to lovers or second chances. I guess it qualifies as both since Grace and Jack were step-siblings who were attracted to each other about 15 years ago when their parents were married and then never spoke because Grace’s mom sold off personal belonings of Jack’s mom because 1)she had a shopping problem and 2)it was hard to live with all her things and not be jealous. Naturally, the Sawyer family had a HUGE problem with Grace’s mom and by proxy, Grace.

I didn’t really care for Grace all that much. One minute she was quiet and had her feelings hurt, the next she was bossy and keeping secrets. It was all a bit much. I did like Jack and his family! Jack was sweet and caring. Sam and Noah were interesting and I’d be tempted to read Sam’s book.  While the beginning moved a little slow for me, I did enjoy this overall 🙂

Million Dollar Cowboy by Lori Wilde

A heartwarming story of a cowboy who comes home to the
family ranch for a wedding
filled with surprises…

Cupid, Texas #5
Lori Wilde
Releasing March 28, 2017
Avon Books
New York Times Bestselling Author Lori Wilde returns to Cupid, Texas with a heartwarming story of a cowboy who comes home to the family ranch for a wedding filled with surprises…The illegitimate son of a Texas ranching dynasty, Ridge Lockhart left home ten years ago with one goal:
to become more successful than the father who never accepted him.
Mission accomplished, but now he’s back at the Silver Feather Ranch for a wedding—three days of best man duty until he can hightail it out. Then he spies
Kaia Alzate, and suddenly leaving isn’t quite so appealing.

Kaia Alzate grew up the daughter of the ranch foreman, servants to the mighty Lockharts in the mansion. Back then, she followed Ridge around like a puppy. Now, she’s fighting the attraction she feels for this sexy CEO. She’s
determined not to make a big mistake—but when Ridge takes her in his arms she’s stunned…could he be the man she’s waited for all along?

4 stars
There are just some authors that you KNOW will write a story that you can curl up with and that you will enjoy. Lori Wilde is one of those for me. And knowing that, I knew I’d enjoy this one.

This is the story of Ridge and Kaia. Ridge left home ten years earlier after finding his dad in bed with his girlfriend. Things weren’t good between in the first place, but this just topped it off. Ridge has come back for his best friend’s wedding. The first thing he sees is a hot woman…who is his best friend’s younger sister! Kaia has always crushed on Ridge and when she figures out he’s attracted to her, she thinks they might have a chance.

I loved Kaia’s bubbly personailty! She was always happy and had a smile. It was such a contrast to Ridge who was dark and brooding most of the time. I loved watching them fall in love 🙂

What a great intro to Barbie Bohrman’s writing! This was fun and flirty, sweet and sassy.

Trevor and Veronica weren’t looking for a relationship, especially not with each other since he was the best man in her wedding. But their friendship showed them they were better together. It was great watching Trevor fall in love 🙂

My oh my, Gina Maxwell writes some steamy scenes. <<<How’s that for an opening line for a review? But really, she’s one of the few authors that have me blushing while reading in the company of others. Not only do her love scenes have steam, her characters are relatable and she writes an awesome story.

Erik and Olivia meet one night at a liquor store and end up having a one night stand. Imagine their shared surprise when they learn she is the one who has been assigned to help treat him for his PTSD. Erik knows one night wasn’t enough and manages to talk her into going on three dates with him so he can convince her they should be together.

There were some laugh out loud funny spots, as well as some that broke my heart. I wanted to wrap Erik up in my arms and hug him. I loved seeing him with his brothers in the firehouse and I am excitedly looking forward to Dozer’s book…you’ll understand why when you read this 😉

Dark Lessons by Julia Sykes

AP new - synopsis.jpg
One hot night with a devastatingly handsome stranger. That’s all it was supposed to be. So when my darkly domineering one-night stand turns out to be one of my instructors at Quantico, my life becomes far too complicated. I’m training as an FBI agent, but Jason has other forms of training in mind. Like bending me over his desk for a spanking.

I try to resist him, but soon we’re stealing forbidden hours of lust when no one’s watching. It could cost us both our careers, but I can’t help myself. He’s broken, and I want to be his salvation.

In return, he says he wants to protect me, to love me. But can he save me when my new job puts me directly in the path of danger?

I popped up out of the pool and removed my goggles, rubbing residual water from around my eyes. When my vision cleared, I stopped breathing.
Jason stared down at me. His mostly naked frame was propped up against the wall, his powerful arms crossed over his chest. He was dressed only in tight swim trunks, and they did little to hide his growing erection.
He was aroused, but he was glaring at me as though I’d offended him deeply.
My anger surged back to life. I pushed up out of the pool, water sliding off my body. His nostrils flared as his gaze darted down to my breasts before snapping back up to my face.
I strode over to him, riding the wave of my anger. “What is your problem?” I demanded. “You’re treating me like I’ve done something wrong. Well, I haven’t. It’s a shitty coincidence that we’re both here, but I didn’t—”
“Of course you haven’t done anything wrong,” he barked over me. “I’m the one who—” He shook his head sharply and tore his eyes from mine, as though he couldn’t bear to look at me. “I can’t do this.”
“Well, you’re going to have to learn to deal,” I said hotly, some of my hurt burning through my anger. “I’m going to be a field agent, and you’re not going to stop me.”
He blinked and met my gaze again. “Why would I stop you?”
“You completely ignored me in class yesterday,” I railed at him. “How am I supposed to learn if you’re determined to act like I’m not even here?” I threw up my hands, too exasperated to continue the conversation. I couldn’t stand to be this close to him. Despite my righteous anger, my body was reacting to him. My core throbbed, and wetness gathered between my legs. Even when he was glowering at me, he was so damn perfect it was almost painful to look directly at him. Especially knowing that I’d had him once and never would again.
I shook my head and turned away. “I’m going to shower off,” I announced. “See you in class.”
I stalked to the showers without waiting for a response. Just like the pool, they were deserted, and I was grateful for the privacy. I didn’t want anyone to see my shaking hands as I stormed in and ripped the curtain aside on one of the stalls. I quickly stripped and turned on the water, keeping the temperature colder than usual. My body felt hot, and my clit throbbed.
“Damn you, Jason,” I muttered.
The shower curtain slid back. “That wasn’t very nice,” he rumbled and stepped into the stall with me as though he had every right, as though I wasn’t naked.
I quickly tried to cover myself with my hands. He lifted a dark brow.
“You weren’t so modest before.”
I gasped. “You asshole!”
“You’re right,” he said, his voice roughening with unmistakable lust as his eyes made a slow appraisal of my body. “I’m definitely an asshole. But you know what? I don’t fucking care.”
He closed the small distance between us and crushed his mouth to mine. I pressed my hands against his chest to shove him away, but he caught my wrists with a low growl. Moving faster than my shocked brain could comprehend, he pressed my back against the cool tile wall and pinned my wrists above my head. The reminder of how he’d held me like this in the motel room made me moan.
He tore his lips from mine and pressed his hand over my mouth.
“Don’t make a sound,” he warned in a husky whisper. “I love when you scream my name, but I don’t want anyone to hear you crying out when I make you come.”

Susan’s Review: 4 stars

Well. That was WAAAAAYYYY darker than I imagined when I started it. I mean, it was so dark and twisted it creeped me out and made me uncomfortable. But it was well written and captivating and kept me turning pages.

I don’t want to say too much for fear of giving away the whole story, but Jason and Natalie met one night at a bar and had a hot one night stand. The next day, she appeared in his hand to hand combat class at Quantico. They knew they shouldn’t be together, but they couldn’t stay away from each other. They planned to be together after she graduated and went into the field, but circumstances drew the apart, and kept them apart. Will they find their way to one another again? Will they be able to be together if they do? read it and find out!

As I said before, the writing was great! I kept turning pages and couldn’t put it down. I was uncomfortable with some of the things that happened, they may not bother someone else. Especially if they are fans of dark reads (dark reads are not my usual LOL). Will I read the next book? Maybe so. It left me wondering what will happen to Jason and Natalie and the rest of the characters.

Who knew my brother’s friend could be Mr.
Right, and not just Mr. Right Now?
My brother refused to introduce me, so I blame him. If he’d just caved, and introduced me to Jasper, I wouldn’t be in this mess. I mean, really, what’s the big deal? I’m not interested in the guy’s looks.
Oh no, I want his cold hard cash. (Be honest, you were expecting that other four letter ‘c’ word weren’t you?)
Now, before you go getting all judgy, I’m not a gold digger. I have a legitimate business opportunity for Jasper to invest in. The problem is that my stick-up-his-ass brother is embarrassed that his twin sister invents kick ass sex toys. His problem, not mine.
So, I took matters into my own hands. Defeat isn’t a word in Lennon Hart’s dictionary.
Using my stealthy P.I. moves, I narrowed my search to a time and place where I knew I could find him. It was completely innocent. A chance meeting that would give me the opportunity to pitch my business.
It wasn’t until I sat down across from the gorgeous panty soaking man in front of me, that I realized I wanted so much more than just his money. I could very well want his heart if I wasn’t careful.
Apparently my P.I. skills aren’t as stellar as I thought because Jasper had his own secret—and it changed EVERYTHING.

Author Bio

Piper Rayne, or Piper and Rayne, whichever you prefer because we’re not one author, we’re two. Yep, you get two established authors for the price of one. You might be wondering if you know us? Maybe you’ll read our books and figure it out. Maybe you won’t. Does it really matter?

We aren’t trying to stamp ourselves with a top-secret label. We wanted to write without apology. We wanted to not be pigeon holed into a specific outline. We wanted to give readers a story without them assuming how the story will flow. Everyone has their favorite authors, right? And when you pick up their books, you expect something from them. Whether it’s an alpha male, heavy angst, a happily ever after, there’s something you are absolutely certain the book will contain. Heck, we’re readers, too, we get it.What can we tell you about ourselves? We both have kindle’s full of one-clickable books. We’re both married to husbands who drive us to drink. We’re both chauffeurs to our kids. Most of all, we love hot heroes and quirky heroines that make us laugh, and we hope you do, too.

Susan’s Review: 5 stars

Gah. I just don’t know what to say about this. I want to list all the things I loved but I don’t want to give anything away because this needs to be read and savored. It was perfect (for me). It made me laugh, cry, swoon, rail in anger and left me smiling like a loon around 1 this morning when I finished it. Just go read it. Lennon and Jasper will be worth the time you spend reading it.

Trophy Wife - About Book

Everyone in Nashville knows Nathan Dumont. That’s what happens when you develop half a town and sleep with the rest.
Five years ago, his fiancee disappeared.
Last night, he proposed to me.

I had wanted to escape my life, the seedy strip club and the mountain of bills. I had seized the opportunity to live in a mansion, fill my days with country clubs and caviar, my nights with romance and sex.

Maybe I should have done my homework first.

The Trophy Wife is a standalone erotic romance. It is approximately 70,000 words. An earlier edition of this book was previously released in 2013 under the name The Dumont Diaries, this is an expanded and rewritten edition of that novel, with over 50 pages of new content.
